Pixel Pitch:

The pixel pitch is actually the center to center distance of adjacent pixels measured in millimeters. In the term plan, pixel pitch will show the gap in between the pixels of LED display. The smaller pixel pitch simply means that there is little space between the pixels and the numbers of pixels are much more. It is the reason of giving higher resolution and higher quality of image.

The pixel pitch of a high resolution SMD LED module would be 4 mm and the pixel pitch for standard resolution DIP LED module would be 10 mm.

Effect of Pixel Pitch Size on the Quality of Image:

The pixel pitch is for determining the resolution, minimum viewing distance and best viewing distance of LED screen. The smaller the pixel pitch means the more pixels and it is the main reason for more detail and higher quality of image. In this regard, it is evaluated that if you are required to present high resolution images or video on your display so you will need LED display with smaller pixel pitch.

Pixel pitch is effective to viewing distance too. The minimum viewing distance is that distance by which you can view image and video with acceptable level of pixilation. The smaller pixel pith will result in smaller gap between the pixels and less pixilation of image or video. Consequently, the viewer would stand much closer to your display.

Choosing the Best Pixel Pitch Size:

You should consider two factors for choosing the perfect pixel pitch, the viewing distance and required image resolution. Smaller size of pixel patches is good every time and it will give you much better image quality. You can also lessen the expenses of LED display by using large size of pixel pitch and still get
almost same quality of image.

If the viewing distance is longer so it would be the best viewing distance. The best viewing distance of a pixel pitch is that distance which your eyes won’t be able to observe to the gaps between the pixels anymore even if you go further.

For instance; take an LED sign which acquires P10 modules with pixel pitch of 10mm. the minimum viewing distance for P10 is 10m and we all know that best viewing distance is 20m. so, if the people with view it from 10m to 50m away, they would easily see and acceptable quality of image with a fading level of pixilation from 10m to 20m and will observe a very good image quality after 20m. In this way you can select your viewing distance.

It is a rough estimation that P10 is suitable for any outdoor application with viewing distance of 10m and more. P8 or P6 could also be average choice if the targeted audience is in closer position. For indoor application P6 is perfect for advertising needs. P4 can also get used if the targeted audience are closer like LED video wall in retail environment.
